10-Year-Old Maltese Survives the Fourth with DAP

Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP) Helps Heart Failure Maltese Through the Stress and Anxiety of July Fourth Fireworks

Shorty never was very good at handling stress.  The 10-year-old male Maltese trembled during every thunderstorm, if and whenever left alone for a few minutes, and July Fourth was just a haze of anti-anxiety prescription medications.

The poor dog just couldn’t handle himself. Then, at the age of 91/2, when he started coughing and losing weight, Doc Springer discovered Shorty suffered from congestive heart failure.

“He’s not going to be able to withstand the stress of another July Fourth.  Let’s get him a DAP collar,” said Doc Truli.

What is Dog Appeasing Pheromone?

This pheromone comes from dog mother’s milk.  Dogs pick up the pheromone in their vomero-nasal organ in the septum of their nose.  To a human, it doesn’t smell like anything.  The pheromone makes the dog feel like everything if a-okay, like mom is nearby.

In an anxiety-ridden situation, like a first night in a new home, during a thunderstorm, during fireworks, or whenever a dog gets anxious when left alone in a separation-anxiety-type situation, the dog appeasing pheromone is reassuring and soothing.

“My nurse plugged in the DAP wall diffuser, and pretty soon, within about a day, the nervous dog she adopted was lying on his back under the diffuser, taking a nap.  The nervous cat was also on his back, snoozing.  The cat was snoozing actually on the dog’s belly.  They became that relaxed when they got Feliway spray and DAP,” says Doc Truli.

How Do I Use DAP?

Dog Appeasing Pheromone comes as a spray, a collar, or a wall diffuser.  We carry the diffuser and the collar, because they seem to work the best.  The diffuser is good for dogs who stay usually in one main room during the anxiety.  Like their favorite spot on the sofa, waiting by the window for you to come home.

The collar is great for dogs that are in a yard, a very large house, or like to move around from room to room.  Either one will work, it’s a matter of preference.

Shorty Has a Happy Fourth of July

Shorty wore his DAP collar.  The extra length that was trimmed off the collar (he had a tiny neck), was placed in his pillow for added comfort.

“Doc, you wouldn’t believe it!  Shorty stayed relaxed for the whole day, and we didn’t even need any medications.  With his heart condition, he might not of made it without that collar,” said Shorty’s dad.

The Dog Appeasing Pheromone collar is a drug-free way to help an anxious dog avoid extra medications.  In Shorty’s case, he already takes two heart medications, so an all-natural anxiety treatment works great for him!

The DAP collar worked well with my new adopted dog from the shelter. She settled in nicely into our new home. Thank you!
