Dog Breed Specific Examinations Help You Focus on Your Dog’s Needs

If you have a purebred dog or a dog who identifies mostly as one or two main breeds, we can predict what problems he or she may be facing in the coming year.  We now include  as part of your annual physical, breed-specific history questions and breed-specific physical examinations for the top ten breeds of dog automatically at no extra charge during your yearly examination.  We  go over the results with you right away and give you specific suggestions for actions you can take to help your dog.  If your dog needs further tests, we can make a plan – with projected costs – and you can schedule the tests out to fit your schedule.

American Pit Bull Terrier Needs

For example, a 0ne-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier(like other mastiff breeds) is very prone to elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia, allergies, and broken teeth. When our doctors examine a Pit Bull, we check the elbows, hips and teeth extra carefully.  We know young dogs feel fine.  They have no idea their elbow is going to start to hurt in a few months or years.  But we know!  You can take action at a young age to keep your dog healthy and happy into the golden years.

Miniature Poodle and Cocker Spaniel Thyroid Problems

We know Miniature Poodles and Cocker Spaniels are prone to develop hypothyroidism (low thyroid function).  But did you know the age when it starts is two to six years old?  We should be testing these dogs as young as two years old in order to help them before wear and tear deteriorates their health.

Shih Tzu Bladder Stones

We know Shih Tzus are much more likely to develop bladder stones than most other dog breeds.  But did you know the stones start as young as two years old?

We can perform a urinalysis and look for crystals in the urine, which may indicate extra minerals in the bladder that could form stones.

Please call and schedule a breed-specific consultation today.  We look forward to hearing from you: 877 DR TRULI.
