Many of my clients who seek holistic care for their pets are home schooling their kids and feed them home-cooked, organic food. These kids seem not to get sick. They are bright, curious, friendly and a sheer joy to be around.
At a recent house call, the kids were all over me for attention. The 8 yr old boy shimmied up the kitchen doorway like a parkour monkey, the 11 year old girl was showing off ballet moves and the 10 yr old boy was asking me math questions- his mom explained that’s his way of flirting. I couldn’t examine the puppy, let alone examine the heart beat.
So I said that I loved to listen to grass grow (which I spent many hours doing at Indian Trail Park when the crayfish were hiding.) you know what happened! 6 little kid eyes went wide and they poured out into the front lawn grass with their ears to the ground for a half an hour!
Their mom relished the silence. I finished the puppy exam. I looked mom and said, “You’re welcome!”
