House Calls and Lab Work
As one concerned pet parent said to the other, “What can a house call really accomplish? Can they even do allergy testing?”
Many diagnostic samples can be collected in the comfort of home, where your pet is less nervous — though all lab work must be ordered and interpreted by your veterinarian.
Routine diagnostic testing your veterinarian may recommend, which we can help you coordinate as part of a house call:
- Bloodwork: CBC, Chemistry Panel, T4, FELV/FIV testing
- Urinalysis and Sediment examination
- Cytology of skin & ear samples
- Thyroid Testing — panels for dogs (T4, fT4, T4 antibodies, TSH level, TSH antibodies) via reputable veterinary laboratories
- Blood pressure measurements are typically 20 points elevated at the vet hospital. At home, we have a better chance of a valid reading.
- Adrenal testing
- Liver function- bile acid testing (2-hr visit- we should combine it with a full visit so we can keep busy consulting together while your dog relaxes and thinks humans are strange for talking so much!)
- Fungal Cultures especially for Ringworm Testing
- Skin Cancer Testing
- Pancreatitis blood test
- Distemper & Parvo Virus titer testing in lieu of annual vaccinations
- Fecal testing for intestinal parasites
- Heartworm disease testing
- Tests after tick exposure for diseases ticks carry
